Do you find yourself wondering if treated beans are necessary? Pence Group gets asked quite a bit if seed treatment is really necessary. Of course, it’s totally acceptable to plant untreated beans and in some instances, think organic management, untreated seed is required. However, there is an investment involved with treating soybeans and we wanted to study how this investment paid off in the field.

Our 2023 research studied three different treatment packages as well as untreated beans. The variety of soybean remained the same, regardless of the treatment.

The first treatment package combines a bio-fungicide along with a biological seed treatment.

The second treatment package comes from Merschman. It’s their flagship treatment and it combines fungicides, biologicals, insecticide, and biostimulants.

The third treatment package is also from Merschman. It’s includes everything in the second package plus added benefits of Saltro and Trunemco for greater protection.

The findings validated treatment with the treated beans gaining 3.2 bushels per acre over the untreated.
